Keeping yourself healthy and safe during the summer isn’t always as easy as you may think. There are a lot of outdoor activities going on, vacations, and we’re always busy doing other things which may make it difficult to do what’s important to staying healthy and safe.

One of the things that effect people more than anything is the lack of water. It’s bad to get dehydrated in the winter, but it’s worse in the summer because it’s hot outside and it takes a lot less to get there. It’s also a time when we drink a lot of pop, ice tea, or juice and those can cause you to become more dehydrated than you would if you were drinking small amounts of water while working outside.

Soda pop is one of the worst things you can drink. It typically takes double the amount of water to prevent hydrations. This means if you drink a 20 ounce bottle of pop it would take 40 ounces of water to break even on the amount of water you need. This is why it’s a good idea not to drink soda pop to begin with. It doesn’t matter if your soda pop is diet or regular it will do the same thing, so it’s best to drink water.

Sometimes what you eat can cause dehydration as well. It’s important not to eat hot foods during the summer. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and steak are ok, but it’s not a good idea to eat soup or chili. You should consider eating cooler foods like fruit, raw vegetables, salads, and sandwiches. This will help you to stay cooler and find yourself less dehydrated.

One last thing to do is make sure you get plenty of rest. When you’re not tired all the time you won’t feel the need to drink caffeine pop or coffee or energy drinks. You’ll be well rested and will have the ability to drink more water so you stay hydrated. There’s no set amount of sleep you need, as each person is different, but you know your body and how much sleep you need, so it’s a good idea to have that amount of sleep as often as possible so you don’t need those drinks to function.

It’s important to pay attention to what you eat and drink during the summer months. It’s easy to cause health issues or become dehydrated easily during this time of year. If this were to happen, you may not only be putting yourself in danger, but others as well. So it’s important to eat right and drink plenty of water every day.
