Peripheral Artery Disease and Performance of the Ankle-Brachial Index

Contact Hours: 4.6 Course Description: This course will provide the learner a comprehensive overview of peripheral artery disease (PAD), including etiology, risk factors, incidence, clinical presentation, diagnosis, medical and surgical management and how to perform the ankle-brachial index (ABI). This course adheres to the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) PAD guidelines, as well as the Canadian Cardiovascular Consensus PAD and TASCII guidelines. Course Objectives:Describe peripheral artery disease (PAD)Discuss the risk factors and etiology of PADDescribe the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of PADDiscuss the importance of the ankle-brachial index (ABI) in the early detection and management of PAD Explain the steps in performing the ABI techniqueExplain the steps in performing the oscillatory method of an ABIDifferentiate normal arterial waveforms from those of severe arterial disease
