Contact Hours: 4.7 Course Description: This program includes a compilation of the following courses: chain of infection, standard precautions, bloodborne pathogens, and hand hygiene. It also discusses the most common infectious agents in the hospital setting. Course Objectives:Identify the six links in the chain of infection
Differentiate the terms: reservoirs, portals of exit and entry, and susceptible hosts
Differentiate the most common infectious agents
Explain the importance of proper hand hygiene
Differentiate the use of antibacterial soap and waterless hand scrubs
Define what is meant by standard precautions
List and differentiate the three categories of 'barriers to prevention'
Define what is meant by bloodborne pathogens
Explain how hospital employees would help to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens
List the emergency and follow up procedures used post-exposure This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
