Contact Hours: 2.0 Course Description: This interactive course will serve as a brief overview of the main parts of a word: stem or root, prefix and suffix, as well as how word stems relate to each body system. It will describe how prefixes can be divided into various categories of meaning depending on how they modify the stem (location, time, amount, color, negation, size, position). Like prefixes, suffixes will be described into different categories of meaning (pertaining to diagnosis, operative procedures, pertaining to symptoms). Course Objectives:Differentiate the main parts of a word: stem or root, prefix, and suffix
Explain how prefixes are used to modify the stem or root
Explain how the various parts of a word relate to body systems
Describe what is meant by combining vowels in relation to medical terminology
Describe how prefixes and suffixes are used in their categories of meaning This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
