Contact Hours: 3.0 Course Description: This module provides the learner with an overview of central venous access including appropriate site selection, indications and contraindications, nursing care during the procedure and post-insertion, and troubleshooting. Course Objectives:Describe typical locations for and types of central lines
Differentiate the types of central lines and their use
Outline the process for central line insertion
Discuss possible complications related to central line placement and use
Define the nurse’s role in post-insertion care
Explain the procedure involved in discontinuing a central catheter This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
