Contact Hours: 1.8 Course Description: This module provides an overview of abdominal assessment, including anatomical landmarks, bowel sounds, and pertinent nursing actions and interventions. Course Objectives:Identify the four quadrants in the abdominal assessment and their underlying organs
Outline the usual methods for assessing the abdomen (inspection, auscultation, percussion, palpation)
Differentiate between hypoactive, hyperactive and high-pitched bowel sounds
Explain the urgency of intervention with absent bowel sounds
Describe paralytic ileus
Review the significance of tracking bowel movements and intake/output measurements
Discuss components of the genitourinary and reproductive systems in relation to abdominal assessment This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
