Contact Hours: 1.5 Course Description: This module provides an overview of methods to assist you in performing an adult respiratory assessment, breath sounds, normal and abnormal findings, pneumothorax and chest tube care, and appropriate nursing interventions. Course Objectives:Describe components of the airway patency assessment and indications and methods used for airway protection
Explain pulse oximetry and list tips to ensure accurate readings
Describe the lung sounds, recommended auscultation sites, and possible causes for abnormal sounds
Outline methods for assessing the chest as related to respiratory assessment
Differentiate between various potential respiratory complications
Define pneumothorax and tension pneumothorax and their associated signs and symptoms
Briefly discuss indications for and care of chest tubes This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
