Contact Hours: 1.0 Course Description: Understanding Bowel Sounds reviews the four quadrants of the abdominal assessment and bowel sounds parameters. It also helps to differentiate normal and abnormal findings, discusses paralytic ileus, and the ramifications of absent bowel sounds. Course Objectives:Describe the four quadrants of the abdominal assessment and their underlying organs
Differentiate normal and abnormal findings with regards to bowel sounds
Compare and differentiate hypoactive, hyperactive, and high-pitched bowel sounds
Describe the urgency of intervention with absent bowel sounds
Briefly discuss paralytic ileus and rebound tenderness
