Contact Hours: 1.4 Course Description: This module provides an overview of intravenous therapy, including indications, complications, and types of solutions. Course Objectives:Describe the indications for intravenous therapy and fluid replacement
Explain osmolality and how it relates to the choice of intravenous fluids
Differentiate hypotonic, isotonic, and hypertonic intravenous solutions and list the indications for each
Differentiate crystalloids, colloids, and blood products
Discuss the signs and symptoms associated with volume overload and/or dehydration of the patient
List the complications associated with intravenous therapy and their possible causes This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
