Contact Hours: 4.6 Course Description: This module provides an extensive review of flight nursing, specifically using fixed wing aircraft. It reviews the roles and responsibilities of a flight nurse, basic flight physiology, contraindications to flight, transfer choreography, and much more. Course Objectives:Discuss the job description of a transport nurse
Identify the key components to anticipation for the proper preparation for the patient prior to transport
Distinguish the differences between flight and ground transport
Review the medications typically supplied in drug kits for transport
Briefly discuss the equipment involved in transport nursing
Explain the fundamental principles of flight physiology & stressors of flight
Discuss the contraindications for flight and review specific exclusion criteria for patients
Discuss the importance of performing a physical assessment before leaving the facility or scene, during the transport, and prior to the transfer of the patient to the new facility
Discuss documentation tips and techniques to consider for transport
Describe the choreography of a typical patient transfer and the importance of communicating with the MTCC (medical transport communication center) This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. DISCLOSURES Criteria for successful completion includes a passing score of 70% on the post-test offered at the end of this course.
