Contact Hours: 1.4 Course Description: This module provides an overview of anticoagulants and thrombolytics, including functions, indications, contraindications, side effects, and special considerations. Course Objectives:Briefly describe how anticoagulants function
Differentiate the indications for Heparin, LMWH (low molecular weight Heparin), and UFH (unfractionated Heparin)
Discuss the indications and special considerations when using Vitamin K antagonists
Briefly describe how antiplatelets function
Discuss the indications for ASA, Clopidogrel, and Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibitors
Briefly describe how thrombolytics function
Describe the indications, contraindications, side effects, and special considerations for thrombolytic therapy
Describe the purpose of bleeding precautions with the patient on thrombolytic therapy
