For one thing, it means the HR industry is becoming much more competitive. As more applicants realize the increased opportunities in the human resources arena, more and more will pursue a career in this field. It’s almost a given when a career choice is named “Best Job.”

In addition, the workplace will continue to become more varied. More jobs will offer more flexible hours, collaborative opportunities, telecommuting possibilities and even the potential for travel or expatriate assignments. HR specialists will need to go with the flow as not only their own jobs, but those they oversee change and evolve.

As jobs disappear and the number of applicants for nearly every professional field grows exponentially, the task of sorting through this ever increasing number of candidates and selecting the best prospect for each position grows as well. This makes it even more challenging to weed through the plethora of applications and resumes to choose those who would best mesh with the corporate culture, who are best skilled and trained for the job at hand, and who best suit the position overall. All responsibilities which rest on the shoulders of the HR specialist or manager.

Jobs in the HR field vary tremendously depending on the industry, location, size of company and other factors. The challenges can be overwhelming and the hours long. The pay may be reasonable, but the stress may be high. In other words, the job of HR Specialist isn’t one for the weak. It requires the ability to meet those challenges head on and overcome them successfully. Doing so will bring a feeling of job satisfaction that can’t be reached in other, less industrious, careers.

Add to the potential for advancement and continued increases in compensation, and it’s not surprising that the HR Specialist is considered one of the best jobs for 2012… and beyond.
